Lori Haven-Teacher

Lori Haven is a teacher at Meadows Elementary in the Franklin-McKinley School District in San Jose, CA. She has exhibited peculiar judgment at her job. Not only in regards to her personal relationship with students, but also with educational funds.

Ms. Haven has been administratively moved from school sites on multiple occasions. This means she was relocated to another school because her performance or behavior was inappropriate.

Before being relegated to Meadows, Ms. Haven taught at Kennedy Elementary. She ran a “student store” in her classroom. She collected cash from students for pencils, soda, water, etc. Previously, she had been reprimanded for having a similar setup. It is district policy that if a fundraiser is to happen, there must be diligent accounting and appropriate spending. Neither of these was done by Ms. Haven. She was cited a second time and moved to Meadows.

Ms. Haven would also organize “coincidence field trips”. This would consist of inviting students from her class to a movie or event outside of the school day. There was no approval of this by the principal or school board, and no permission slips were distributed or assigned. She told her students on many occasions that this would be “our little secret.”

Students at Bridges Academy in the 7th grade would be able to confirm this.

Perhaps most egregious of her offenses was the creation of a public flickr account. Flickr is a Yahoo website where users can create photo albums. Ms. Haven created an album that hosted a variety of pictures, including lingerie portraits. These lingerie pics were in the same album as photos of her students.
